Degafloor NZ represents two premium German brands. Each brand champions different resin technology for different reasons.

Here is an overview on why we chose to align with these suppliers.

DEGADUR® by Röhm.

DEGADUR® based on “Liquid Plexiglas” or methyl methacrylate (MMA) resins are fast becoming a go to solution for commercial and industrial flooring projects. MMA floors are highly valued since they achieve full cure within 2 hours of installation. This means that a DEGADUR® floor can be subjected to full operational use almost immediately after the final application. Compared to the days or weeks that most epoxy, cementitious urethane, or concrete floors take to cure, its easy to see why MMA is so well regarded, particularly floors subjected to heavy use.

DEGADUR® achieves this rapid cure due to the chemical formulation, where a methacrylic ester is combined with an organic peroxide which acts as a catalyst to quickly fuse the two components together, turning the liquid resin into a solid. This curing process is very different to epoxy and cementitious polyurethane, which take time for the separate components to form a crosslinked matrix.

The speed at which a DEGADUR® floor can be returned to full service, typically three and four times faster than other systems offers significant advantages for any construction schedule. This rapid curing makes DEGADUR® a perfect choice for projects that are running behind schedule to “buy back” time that would ordinarily not be possible with other resin technologies.

The way in which DEGADUR® chemically fuses its various layers means it is significantly less sensitive to low temperature and moisture during the critical curing period. This allows for installation to be completed in conditions as low as -30°C, which is ideal for application in a freezer or cool store but doesn’t have the time to bring the temperature up and then reduce it to back down to operational levels.

Application

The penetrating primers and thermoplastic fusing of the DEGADUR® layers to the substrate creates an almost unbreakable bond that ensures longevity. Depending on the specific stresses placed on the floor, most installations will perform for 15+ years with the correct maintenance. Unlike labour-intensive trowel-applied resin systems, DEGADUR® is a trowel assisted flowable liquid resin allowing large areas to be installed at a significantly faster rate than other resins while at the same time ensuring a high-quality finish.

DEGADUR® flooring is versatile, it can be installed on new or old concrete, existing resin, asphalt, ceramic tiles, steel plate, ply and compressed cement sheet. This versatility saves hours in surface preparation, particularly in maintenance shutdown scenarios, as it can be applied directly on to the existing floor finish.

The beauty of DEGADUR® is a floor can very easily be refurbished by reapplying a new coating on top of the existing. Unlike other resin chemistries, the new layer chemically fuses to the existing floor, creating a monolithic system that will not delaminate. This means that floors can be upgraded for a fraction of the cost, time and disruption that replacing an entire floor would take.

DEGADUR® flooring is non-toxic and extremely low in volatile organic compounds (VOCs). The resin does exhibit a distinct odour during installation; however, this is harmless and can be very easily managed with the appropriate air extraction regime in place. It’s worth noting that the odour disappears on its own accord very quickly once curing process has taken place and will not taint foodstuffs.

The speed and versatility of DEGADUR® does not come at the expense of other properties that are important, such as durability, aesthetics and cleanability. In fact, DEGADUR® resins can be tailored to provide comparable if not greater benefits to other types of resin floors.

Multiple options are available depending on the specific use, heavy duty systems for commercial applications such as the food and beverage industry through to highly decorative finishes for upmarket cafes and restaurants.

The safety profile of DEGADUR® floors can be tailored to suit the environment with various anti-slip aggregates. This is necessary in wet or greasy environments to minimise slip risks and meet health & safety compliance.

Design options

Degafloor NZ carries nine multi-coloured colour options in the slip-resistant Quartz Series range and ten standard colours in the decorative Dekor Series range. Almost any combination of colour can be produced given enough time to order a specific combination of colours.

Colourful inlays are easily achievable, whether it’s simply a two-tone combination or a more complex brand logo displayed in the floor surface, DEGADUR® resins can be used to further enhance the decorative effect that is often not possible with other resin systems.

DEGADUR® also exhibits excellent resistance to chemical attack enabling it to withstand a range of chemicals including most organic and mineral acids, alkalis, salt solutions, oils and fats, disinfectants, cleaning agents and caustic soda. It also offers exceptional resistance to staining and discolouration, which is advantageous in restaurants, supermarkets, and bars where spillages are common.
